If you have decided to change a backsplash or wall tiles, then its time to remove the existing tiles.



Always be safe as there may be fragments of tile flying around so make sure you wear googles and gloves.



Remove everything from the room and cover surfaces with rags or old blankets to ensure they are not damage by falling tile.

Take a mallet and chisel and start by using them to dig out the grout around a tile. Once you have done that place the chisel at and angle and bank it in so it works behind a tile. As you do that the tile should come away from the wall. Keep on with this process until all tiles are removed. Then use the chisel to remove any leftover grout.

Take care with drywall or plasterboard as this may get damages in the removal process. Any damage will need to be repared or filled once all the tiles are removed.

If you need to remove individual cracked tiles, start off by drilling a few holes into the tile. Then use the chisel to crack the tile further using the holes to get purchase and then work out the tile as above.
