The subway tile with the distinctive 3 x 6 brick shape was made popular at the end of the victorian era when the New York City Subway opened. They also became a common site in swimming pools. Now there are many options for subway tiles in terms of size and color, and are now common in both kitchens in bathrooms.
Subway tiles are common paired with border pieces or hex mosaic, but not it can also be glass and metal tiles. If restoring a more traditional house or adding the subway tile look to a modern home subway tiles add a nice design touch to a bathroom or kitchen.
