Kitchen Island and Kitchen Cabinets
A kitchen island makes your kitchen just a bit more versatile and flexible. There are kitchen islands that are suitable for both large and small kitchens.
The main reasons for a kitchen island are to create some extra work space for cooking. To allow for an informal dining area in the kitchen as well as to allow for extra storage but there are lots of other purposes that people put kitchen islands too also.
The main thing is to measure the available space so you get the appropriate sized island for your kitchen. You dont want to order one too big and find that you are no longer comfortable when working in the kitchen.
If you do that a kitchen island will become more of a hindrance than a help to you. When measuring the space dont forget to allow for door and drawers that may need to be opened in cabinets on both sides of ailes and walkways.
In small kitchens where space is at a premium but where a little extra working and storage space can be a real help its worth looking at portable islands. Again measurements are important to get the appropriate size for your room.
By adding an overhang to a kitchen island countertop and some seating you now have a quick and easy informal dining area in your kitchen. This is also good if you have guests who want to sit and chat while you are cooking or working in the kitchen.
